world street food congress 2015.

checked out the world street food congress last night. (probably wasn't a good idea to go with an empty stomach, because of the minuscule portions and queuing.)

first thing we queued for was the truffle lechon rice ($13.80) from pepita's kitchen, which was the thing i most wanted to try after reading about the event. and so we joined the snaking queue, which only became worse as time passed.

so this was the truffle lechon rice! was it worth the half an hour wait? probably, because it did have interesting flavour. would've liked for it to be hot though! i commented that the texture of the rice reminded me of lo mai kai, so to me this was like truffle lo mai kai with pork and pork crackling; but X disagreed. this was incidentally X's favourite dish of the night. probably a good thing that we decided to queue first, because when we went back to that area later, it was already sold out.

mission completed, we went in search of other interesting things to try. while X was queuing for her currywurst combo ($12), the indian stall beside caught my attention.

i got the litti chicken ($7) which came with a chicken drumstick and two pieces of the litti choka. litti choka was basically roasted dough balls. the sauce was very strong in flavour and leant towards the salty side, but made sense with the chicken and dough balls. i've never had anything like it. quite liked it, but the choka became jelat after a while and i didn't manage to finish it.

this was X's currywurst, which came with a potato salad. didn't try it, except the cold and refreshing potato salad, but X liked it.

while eating, we joined another queue (eating while queuing makes the queuing bearable). this was the anticucho ($10), which was a bolivian pork fillet kebab.

this was hands down my favorite dish of the night. the kebab had crispy burnt bits that were awesome. it also came with a potato that had a peanutty sauce ladled over- reminded me of a milder satay sauce. the side tomato salad was nothing to shout about, but the acidity was refreshing.

still had stomach space and wanted to try other stuff, but nothing else caught our attention. so we decided to head over to bugis for other food.

while we were leaving, noticed that they actually had a map of all the stalls and available food! argh. that was what we were looking for initially, but the brochure that we picked up didn't have it. maybe because we came in through the other side, we missed the map totally. oh well.

was pretty interesting, and the crowd wasn't as bad as i thought it would be. or maybe because it was a thursday night. worth a visit, but better to go with the purpose of sampling in mind.
