meat smith, telok ayer street.

was in the telok ayer area and needed a quick lunch after the gym. remembered that meatsmith, which i've wanted to check out for a while now, was nearby, so decided to pop by. telok ayer street is interesting, filled with eateries, and i found myself getting distracted by many of them along the way.

the place was quite empty when i entered; probably because i was a little late for lunch (reached at around 1.30). they close at 2 anyway, surprisingly enough.

this was their menu.

after i got seated, one of the servers came up to me, explained how to order (no service charge, so have to order at the counter) and introduced me to the lunch sets that they were offering as well. i didn't notice the lunch set at first- it was written on a blackboard on the wall, but i was seated facing away from the wall. i appreciated the initiative. for a place with no service charge, they do provide good service.

their lunch sets were good value- sandwich, side + beer/cider for $20, or brisket, side + beer/cider for $25. if i was hungry it would be a good choice, but i wasn't all that hungry and so decided not to be greedy. the mac and cheese did almost tempt me into getting a lunch set though.

in the end i just got a pulled pork burger ($10) without mayo.

service was quick and my burger was served within five minutes i think. it was on the small side, but since i wasn't that hungry i wasn't fussed. even though the bun was small, they were generous with the pulled pork filling, which i appreciated. in fact, there was so much meat that i ended up eating it as an open faced burger. the pulled pork and fluffy bun went perfectly with the tangy som tam slaw. very satisfying, and affordable to boot.

i left happy. will come back next time with an empty stomach to get one of their lunch sets. the brisket burger and mac and cheese sound enticing.
